About the RoleTe Manahuna, Project River Recovery is looking for an experienced person to join the biodiversity team, based in the Twizel office, for a fixed period of 12 months.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right individual to join part of a committed and professional Biodiversity team to achieve high quality conservation outcomes.
As a Biodiversity Ranger, you will be carrying out predator control in two trap networks (Tasman River, Upper Ohau River) with the addition of further networks in future, either as the operator or managing contractors. The role will be focused on ensuring effective trapping to ensure the survival of, and increase in populations of Nationally Critical braided river bird species, including the flagship species for the Twizel District, kaki / black stilt.
You will be responsible for implementing the planning, day-to-day activities and reporting involved with this project. Your responsibilities will include organizing and delivering the work project relating to:
Servicing traps and maintaining trap networksHandling toxin in ground-based operationsInitiating predator response to any major predation events on a significant island breeding colony of black-fronted terns in the Upper Ohau riverTrapping contractor auditing and managementTrack maintenance (for traplines and existing LUV access)Liaising with trapping volunteers in Aoraki Mt Cook National ParkSkills and ExperienceThe successful applicant will have:

The salary range for this position is $60,314 to $75,603 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory; this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
