Help HelpDutiesRange Technicians work under the supervision and guidance of natural resource specialists related to monitoring rangeland conditions. They assist with the issuance of grazing permits and leases and ensure that permitees are in compliance.Inspects grazing allotments, forwards issues to supervisor. Counts livestock and reports on utilization and grazing impact. Maps out areas of use. Inspects range improvement and makes reports.Provides technical support and assistance in range conservation, range management, and range improvement.Identifies needed range improvements, assists with monitoring agreements and permit projects for conformance to specifications. Regularly works with park maintenance staff to check, install, and maintain fencing.Participates in the gathering, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of monitoring data. Prepares, evaluates, and conducts ecological analyses of public rangeland projects.Other duties may include exotic plant management and park inventory. Completing range or vegetation condition and trend studies, utilization, actual use, climatological and other allotment evaluation studies.Works with partners to identify, develop, and complete hydrological restoration projects involving past rangeland improvements such as defunct cattle tanks.Assists with the management of herds of trespass livestock and the investigation of unauthorized use of rangeland.Coordinates and consults with local Tribal Councils, State agencies, special interest groups and other federal agencies concerned with the proper protection and conservation of rangeland ecosystems.Properly files, stores and preserves range administration records and monitoring data. Uses GPS and GIS tools to collect and collate data. May provide GIS assistance to other park functions.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentU.S. Citizenship required.Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.Government housing may be available.You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.QualificationsAll qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/27/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.To qualify for this position, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities of Range Technician such as work in the conservation, regulation, and use of public or federally controlled lands for grazing. Examples include but are not limited to: leading others in vegetative monitoring data collection, analysis, and reporting, and leading others in invasive plant management planning, herbicide treatment, and reporting. You must include hours per week worked.-OR-EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate study in one of the following fields: natural resource management, rangeland management, biological science, plant ecology or other closely related subjects pertinent to the position. (One year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours). IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your course work and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts or a complete list of college courses taken that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. You must include transcripts.-OR-Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and one-half year (9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours) of directly-related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Well qualified means that the applicant meets the following: OPM qualification standards for the position; all selective placement factors, where applicable; special qualifying conditions that OPM has approved for the position, where applicable; is physically qualified with reasonable accommodation, where appropriate to satisfactorily perform the duties of the position upon entry; and is rated by the organization at least at the well qualified level on all competencies. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The incumbent carefully adheres to all safety procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.How You Will Be EvaluatedYou will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
