TeWhatu Ora, Health New Zealand, leads the day-to-day running of our healthsystem across New Zealand, with functions delivered at local, district,regional and national levels. Asan organisation we deliver health services to the almost 600,000 people thatlive in the Canterbury region. The Team Canterbury Regional Cancer and Haematology Service(CRCHS) provides radiation services to a regional population of approximately 600,000. CRCHS currently employs 10 radiation oncologists, 10 medicaloncologists, six haematologists and four palliative care physicians. We are acollaborative unit and work closely with a highly skilled team of radiationtherapists, nurses and specialists from other medical disciplines. CRCHS has accreditation for radiation oncology trainingwith the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. In additionto 8 accredited radiation oncology registrar training posts, we have trainees in medicaloncology, haematology and palliative care. The department has four linear accelerators, all withsix-degree of freedom couches, a wide-bore CT-simulator, Monaco treatmentplanning system, Flexitron HDR Brachytherapy and ABC deep inspiratory breathhold units. We led the introduction of stereotactic lung radiation therapy toNew Zealand departments, and expanded the stereotactic programme to include CNSmetastases. Future developments include spine and oligo-metastases, andprostate stereotactic RT. Our HDR brachytherapy programme treats gynaecologicaland prostate malignancies and will include palliative procedures soon. Mo te tunga | About the role We are looking for a  Consultant RadiationOncologist  to join our innovative team for a Fixed Term, Parental Leave cover position starting as soon as possible until August 2024. CRCHS maintains close links with the University ofOtago's Christchurch School of Medicine and we are involved in undergraduateand postgraduate teaching. We are active participants in Australasian andinternational cooperative group clinical trials and have an experiencedclinical research support team. Christchurch is a great place to live and bring upa family. It is easy to get around with ample recreational pursuits on ourdoorstep. Schooling and university facilities are excellent. You will need to hold the FRANZCR, or an equivalentqualification, that would enable registration as a specialist radiationoncologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand. In addition to your clinical,research, academic and administration duties, you will be participating in theafter-hours on-call roster as well as covering clinical services in out-reachclinics. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in acollaborative team are essential. Additional desirable skills includeexperience or interest in performing brachytherapy procedures, stereotactic body treatments, clinicalresearch and registrar teaching.
