We work to ensure that cargo and passengers entering New Zealand are free of biosecurity risk.Officers work on a rotational roster that offers them a breadth of work as they lead New Zealand's biosecurity system at the front line - international airports, ports, mail centres, and cargo facilities. You will be fit and healthy as you will be standing for periods of time. Working indoors and outdoors will appeal to you.You will have strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to create strong relationships with stakeholders. You have a high level of computer literacy. An interest or qualification in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, botany, or environmental science is preferred. It is accountable for ensuring the delivery of sustainable and effective frontline biosecurity clearance services at the border for imported goods, craft, mail, passengers, crew, and transitional facilities.About MPIThe Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) partners with New Zealand's food and fibre sector to be the world's most sustainable provider of high-value food and primary products.Biosecurity New Zealand is part of the Ministry for Primary Industries and is focused on stopping pests and diseases at the border before they get to New Zealand, eradicating or managing the impact of those already here. With the help of New Zealanders, we ensure our unique environments and the value of our primary industries are maintained. Biosecurity New Zealand provides the operational focus and direction to ensure Aotearoa has the right resources and people-power to protect our country from biosecurity threats.New Zealand has a complex and effective biosecurity system to support our unique environment and the relatively few pests and diseases that threaten our economy. New Zealand's biosecurity system has three interlocking layers of protection - pre-border, border, and post-border.
