Company Overview: STAR Consultants Ltd is a boutique QS consultancy based in Christchurch, specializing in interior construction and fit-out projects. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality construction solutions to our clients, with a focus on specific interior trade knowledge.
Position Overview: After a period of strong growth we are seeking an Estimator to join as the senior member of our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate take-offs for construction projects from plans and the administering of projects. The successful candidate will possess excellent analytical skills, as well as a strong attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
Reviewing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare accurate Bills of Quantities.
Conducting site visits and assessments to gather relevant information for cost estimation.
Analysing labour, material, and equipment requirements to determine project preliminaries & General.
Obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier quotes for inclusion in cost estimates.
Collaborating with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of estimates.
Preparing detailed breakdowns and proposals for clients.
Participating in bid reviews and negotiations with clients and subcontractors.
Contract administration and preparation of Variation and monthly Payment Claims.
Staying abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements affecting construction costs.
Qualifications and Skills:
Diploma in quantity surveying construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or related field.
Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry, with a track record of successfully estimating projects of varying size and complexity.
Strong knowledge of interior trades including Suspended Ceilings, Steel Stud, Insulation, Plasterboard Linings & Aluminium partitions.
Strong knowledge of NZ construction methods, materials, and techniques.
Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as PlanSwift or similar.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with New Zealand building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for site visits if required.
Willingness to occasionally work outside of regular business hours to meet project deadlines.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
