About the role | Mo te turanga: The Quality, Safety & Compliance Manager will develop, maintain, and oversee the day-to-day management of Quality, Health and Safety, Privacy, and Risk systems for Awanui Group. This role works closely with the Operational Leadership Team (OLT) and regional Quality and Safety Managers to ensure local systems align with national standards. Key responsibilities include mentoring the broader team, supporting business initiatives, and ensuring a standardized approach to policies and procedures across the organisation. This is a national role, with the flexibility to be based in Auckland, Christchurch, or Wellington. Key Responsibilities: Set strategic direction and lead internal implementation plans for quality, privacy, health, and safety functions. Standardize quality assurance, health, and safety practices across the organisation to ensure compliance and best practices. Lead and enhance the implementation of quality, health, and safety management systems and processes. Maintain high standards by working towards new health and safety accreditations. Engage and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as auditors, to ensure compliance with national standards. Identify and track relevant metrics, and report on risk, quality, health, and safety performance to the Executive Team and Board. Develop and manage the quality, health, and safety team, ensuring collaboration and alignment with national strategies. Manage and coordinate Group Risk activities, conduct risk assessments, and develop policies to control risks and liabilities. Ensure laboratory compliance with ISO 15189, Health and Safety at Work Act (2015), ISO 45001, and other necessary standards. Develop and implement the Quality Management plan, conduct customer surveys, and manage quality assurance programs. Promote health and safety plans, educate staff on health and safety practices, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Guide Regional Managers to manage reference equipment for calibrations and checks. Oversee training modules for managers and employees on Quality and Health and Safety compliance. Work collaboratively with management and staff to deliver high standards of customer service and support business objectives. Stay updated with industry developments and attend relevant meetings and training courses. Requirements: Senior-level experience in a laboratory environment. 5+ years of experience in maintaining a Quality System in accordance with AS/NZS ISO/ISO 15189 and IANZ requirements. 3+ years of experience in maintaining a Health and Safety System in accordance with ISO 45001 and Telarc requirements. Working knowledge of New Zealand Health and Safety practices. Presentation skills. Tertiary qualification in medical sciences, Business Management, or a related field. Competencies include problem-solving, effective time management, informing and persuading, systems thinking, planning, and monitoring.
