This is a fixed-term position with a 12-month duration.
You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work.
Responsibilities Take charge of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance (HSEQA) across both governance and operational levels, ensuring a robust and proactive approach in the recovery programme.
Provide strategic HSEQA leadership for council and contractor-managed assets, covering critical recovery efforts such as roads, bridges, flood control systems, and water services.
Be a key player in rebuilding our community infrastructure.
Play a crucial role in reviewing and enhancing policies and guidance that align with Council's responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, helping ensure the wellbeing of everyone involved.
Partner with the Recovery Programme Manager and Compliance and Assurance Manager to strategically prevent harm, enhance quality, and foster a forward-thinking HSEQA culture.
Qualifications Tertiary level qualification in relevant field or 5 years in a similar or relatable senior role.
Formal Health and Safety management qualification – desirable.
Thorough knowledge of The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and related regulations.
Sound understanding of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Assurance (HSEQA) at governance and operational levels.
