Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pukenga | Lecturer in Japanese. The role is situated in the Asian Languages and Cultures Programme of the School of Languages and Cultures and involves responsibility for teaching, researching and publishing in Japanese Studies. We are excited to welcome a scholar expert in any area of Japanese Studies to the Asian Languages and Cultures Programme. The role involves teaching into the Japanese major in the Bachelor of Arts. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to some of the School's other offerings in Asian Studies, Intercultural Communication, Global Studies or Translation Studies. The successful candidate will: Have demonstrable expertise in Japanese Studies, and a PhD in that area. Demonstrate a commitment to and track record of scholarly publication. Be able to teach Japanese language and culture effectively at all undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Be able to make a contribution to the School's other course offerings, as appropriate. Demonstrate the ability to work collegially, contribute effectively to the administration of the Programme, and support our Programme and University obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The role will also involve developing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, with support from the wider Programme, as well as supervising postgraduate students. You will be motivated by a passion for Japanese language and culture and a desire to teach and research in this field. You will join a School committed to the role that languages and cultures play in a global society. You will have the opportunity to develop a community of scholars, students and wider networks of readers and writers in Japanese Studies and more broadly.
