Ko wai matou - Who are we New Plymouth District Council's Cultural Experiences Team brings together a world-class contemporary art gallery, a dynamic regional museum, and a beloved network of central and community libraries to celebrate the region's stories, people, and creativity.
Puke Ariki Museum, a leading regional museum, delivers dynamic exhibitions, events, and experiences to our community and visitors.
Powered by a great team, the museum is open 364 days a year and includes an i-Site, retail shop, and education spaces.
We're looking for amazing Senior Visitor Host to join us and lead our front-line Museum team!
Te aheinga - The opportunity The Senior Visitor Host is a critical link between our great front-of-house team and leadership, supporting the team to deliver consistently amazing visitor experiences in both an active and operational capacity.
The role will have two to three days a week on the floor, and the balance working on office-based projects.
You will manage weekend activities, including rostering and staffing coverage, and develop hosting protocols, ensure effective and open communication, monitor team performance, maintain health and safety standards, implement surveys, provide feedback, and ensure the museum is well-presented.
A strong focus on supporting the Supervisor in either Health and Safety requirements and systems, wellbeing, staff rostering, and/or HR processes Provides support to the Museum's team of front-of-house Hosts by acting as a point of receipt and distribution of communication, contact and feedback between the team and the Visitor Services supervisor Undertakes rostered shifts as Visitor Host (two to three days per week) Undertakes office-based project and administration work as required to support the team Supports weekend activities for the team, through management of roster and shift changes, finding replacement cover as needed, and a focus on museum staffing coverage, to enable uninterrupted levels of service by the team Support to the Host team to consistently understand and deliver best practice visitor experience and service Helps develop hosting protocols that meet the requirements of each exhibition suite and effectively share the kaupapa of each exhibition Helps ensure communication between museum teams is open, timely and effective Helps ensure team performance and engagement is positive and aligned to the goals and aspirations of both the Museum and Cultural Experiences team Ensure appropriate health, safety and security standards are observed by visitors and be vigilant in assessing safety and security risks at all times Implement surveys and provide regular feedback Ensure excellent presentation of Puke Ariki, maintaining attractive and clean spaces for visitors Actively ensures that legislative requirements and Council policies and procedures are fulfilled We are seeking a friendly and approachable individual with extensive customer service experience, strong cultural and community awareness, and the ability to work effectively within a political environment are essential.
You will be proactive and collaborative, with the ability to enhance team performance, take accountability for your decisions and actions, and actively seek opportunities to strengthen business performance.
Flexibility, including availability to cover a mix of weekend and evening work is essential.
