Te aheinga - The opportunity Puke Ariki Library has recently become a part of the Cultural Experiences Group for Council which includes the Library, Museum, and Govett Brewster and Len Lye Gallery. We are looking for a Librarian to work in DiscoverIT! our Children's and Youth section of the library. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Puke Ariki Library as we take on a new direction, integrating services and working more collaboratively across our Cultural Experiences group. We will be building a new Library Strategy and focusing on delivering exceptional services to our customers. We are looking for someone with experience working with children and youth in a Library or similar setting, who is a team player with confidence in delivering programming and events in a public space. You will have a genuine interest in the library/education fields and show a willingness to stay updated with information and emerging trends, especially in literacy development. Undertake rostered shifts on the desk which would include some Wednesday evenings and weekend work. Respond to customer enquiries to ensure customers receive service that exceeds their expectations. Assist customers in the use of Library technology. Assist customers to find appropriate reading materials to suit different age ranges. Contribute to collection management - shelving books, shelf checking, display work, and tidying. Collaborate with the Collections Team on the development and maintenance of the children's and parenting collections. Connect children and their whanau with Library services and programmes. Provide a range of attractive displays. Contribute to the delivery programmes and events across the library network. Contribute to a positive team culture. Promote the library and early literacy. A relevant library qualification or working towards one. Customer service experience (preferably Public Libraries). Competency in Library Management systems. A team player. Experience in delivering programming and events. Knowledge and understanding of childhood literacy development and resources. General knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety principles. A positive attitude for developing your knowledge base in children's librarianship and joining relevant professional organisations. This role is considered a children's worker role and will be subject to safety checking as part of the Children's Act 2014. He aha ai a Taranaki? - Why Taranaki?
