Intern Psychologist (Health) – 12 months fixed term 0.8 FTE Taranaki Base Hospital, New Plymouth We are offering an opportunity for a Health Psychology internship with our psychologists who work in adult physical health.
The internship will be for a fixed term period of 12 months and will offer valuable learning opportunities in health psychology.
The successful candidate will receive appropriate supervision and opportunity to experience working in inpatient and outpatient settings delivering individual and group interventions.
There is a diverse range of clinical presentations with many people experiencing emotional health issues or behavioural responses that impact on their ability to manage their physical condition.
The successful candidate will: Be enrolled with a New Zealand Psychologists Board approved Postgraduate Psychology Doctorate or Diploma Have the support of appropriate academic professional(s) from the University Be enthusiastic and keen to learn and experience new health environments Psychology services for health at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki provide input to specialist teams including the persistent pain service, Diabetes Integrated Team, and cancer support service.
General adult health psychology includes managing traumatic events (e.g.
after a motor vehicle accident), chronic health conditions as well as considering the rehabilitation needs of those with chronic and life changing conditions, such as recovery after stroke.
Working in a smaller health district guarantees a wide range of experience.
We have a small but friendly group of psychologists working at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki across a range of specialties and typically have at least one other Intern working within mental health.
Health psychology works within multi-disciplinary team settings and this role provides an opportunity to understand the complexity of health care and the importance of communication in enhancing recovery.
