About the team The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital, high above Dunedin with stunning views of the city and ocean. The IDS comprises three parts: Ward 10a - a 12-bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage - a four-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit, and the Community Liaison team. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team comprising Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists.
About you - About the role Our Intellectual Disability Service based at Wakari Hospital is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Community Liaison team. This team is pivotal in supporting and rehabilitating care recipients both in the inpatient ward and in the community.
You will require good time management skills to enable your assessment, planning, and delivery of effective clinical psychology interventions for patients. You will also be actively involved in individual and group therapies. Ensuring the continued well-being of your clients will involve extensive liaison with other clinical psychologists within the organisation.
You should have a sound knowledge of clinical psychology assessment and interventions relevant to intellectual disability and mental health. Your communication skills must be of the highest standard, enabling you to relate to clients, their families, and other health professionals while providing clear and appropriate communication when presenting and discussing clinical information. Being open to different ways of working and thinking outside the box will help you achieve positive outcomes. The clinical psychologist role is an integral and valued member of a multidisciplinary team providing patient-centred interventions.
