KoTaku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand is a Specialist School for Deaf/Hard ofHearing students. We have a focus on growth, learning and collaboration. Youwill be joining a nationwide teamand you will share their passion andenthusiasm for delivering high quality education and services to Deaf and Hardof Hearing students and the whanau we support. We have 12 provisions (satelliteteams) based in primary and secondary schools in Auckland, Wellington andChristchurch.
THE ROLE / TE MAHI Weare seeking a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced NZregistered classroom teacher who has in-depth understanding of the NZCurriculum and assessment tools. This role alsoentails leading the Deaf bilingual provision, having oversight of teachers andteacher aides, along with our students and ensuring the provision iseffectively managed to support the students with their emotional and academicachievements.
Inthis role:
Our class sizes are small, ranging from 2 – 7students per class groupYou will be a teacher with the right skillsand attitude who can work with a range of Deaf and Hard of Hearing studentsacross all communication modes (including New Zealand Sign Language and spokenEnglish) and in varying learning contexts. We will help you learn NZSL ifneededYou will work within a Deaf ProvisionTeaching Team, which includes Teachers and Teacher Aides of the Deaf, withaccess to other specialists as requiredAn opportunity to team teach with anotherexperienced Teacher of the DeafYour strong knowledge of the NZ Curriculummeans you will have the ability to adapt the curriculum to primarily focus on literacy and numeracy with our young studentsStrongclassroom management skills, and knowledge of planning for students' individualneedsApplications will be considered fromteachers with recent knowledge and understanding of the core business oflifting student achievement and wellbeing. Prior experience working with DHHstudents is desirable. If required, we will support you to developanawareness of Deaf Culture and the Deaf community. Proficiency in NewZealand Sign Language (NZSL) - or a strong commitment to learning NZSL isessential.
