Protection Technician

As a Protection Technician, you will join our highly skilled team of Technicians within the Substation Services team, in supporting the reliable and effective operation of our network and associated substations.This role includes maintaining and testing relays and protection schemes, along with commissioning brand new schemes as part of capital works.Responsibilities:Assess safety and functionality of secondary systems and schemesAnalyse, design, modify and apply network protection settingsTest and commission remote connected equipmentParticipate in a 24hr callout roster for 24hr fault response and repairAssist with As-building drawingsAssist engineering with design of settings/SCADA mappingLiaise with the control centre, NMS Team, engineering, dispatch and operations staffSkills and Experience:Registered Electrician/Protection Technician with a Technical Certificate/NZCE or equivalentA minimum of three years post qualifying experience in the electrical industryExperience in testing and commissioning primary and secondary equipmentDemonstrate an uncompromising commitment to workplace safetyAt WEL, we look after our people and you'll benefit from a powerful package of benefits including the following:Medical, life, and income protection insuranceFlexible working options - time in lieu, ability to purchase additional annual leave, nine day fortnight, and much moreRelocation costsAn excellent salary package, including annual salary reviews, on-call allowance and paid overtimeWe are committed to making sure our people go home safe every day, and with a drug and alcohol-free worksite we will require you to undertake testing as part of your pre-employment health assessment as well as participating in our annual health assessment programme.About WEL NetworksWEL Networks is unique.
