About the Role:
NZ Police are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Police Prosecution Service (PPS) as a Prosecutor in Rotorua, within their Bay of Plenty South PPS team. With PPS, you will gain a sound knowledge of prosecution processes including advocacy, knowledge of the Law and court practices. You will move into an area of fast-paced and interesting criminal courtroom advocacy where you will grow and gain a large amount of experience in a short period of time. You will have the opportunity and autonomy to make decisions in the knowledge that you are making a difference in the community in which you live.
You will be part of a diverse group of Constabulary prosecutors, Police Employee lawyers, support, and managerial staff. Here you will find that camaraderie and peer support are second to none, and the feeling of belonging to a close-knit team is a real and tangible experience.
You will experience 'on your feet' prosecuting in courts ranging from first appearance through to Judge alone trials and sentencing hearings. In addition, you will be involved in various out-of-court case management processes, such as file analysis, writing submissions, and liaising with police investigators and defence counsel.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a full reference and security check prior to any offer of employment being made. The successful applicant must reside within commutable distance to Rotorua. If you are a Police Employee applicant, you must have an LLB degree and have the ability to get a practicing certificate and provide a copy of qualification eligibility.
Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for, and either:
- Undertake to engage in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date
- Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for.
For Police Employees, this is not a requirement to apply; however, you are willing to undertake to engage in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date. This role is set at Individual Contributor level, meaning your key purpose is to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business.
