Te Wero - The Challenge
We are looking to hire a Property Legalisation Officer within the Corporate Services division of the Far North District Council. This role sits with the Legal Services team. Its main function is to carry out property research, legalisation actions and other relevant tasks in relation to Council roads, reserves and other properties. The position in general supports the wider organisation.
Some key responsibilities in this role include:
Processing road legalisations within the framework of the Public Works Act 1981
Processing road stoppings and other road-related transactions within the framework of the Local Government Act 1974
Processing reserves-related transactions (leases, licences, easements, classifications, reclassifications and revocations) within the framework of the Reserves Act 1977
Responding to property related enquiries
Creating easement relating to Council infrastructure
Drafting agreements for property related entry works
Collaborate with relevant other departments in legalisation actions.
The successful candidate will have:
Experience and knowledge in performing actions under the Reserves Act 1977, Local Government Act 1974 and Public Works Act.
Experience and understanding of cadastral land information and survey plans
Proven land research experience (public land, Maori Freehold Land, fee simple etc.)
Ability to engage with Government agencies and manage professionals such as surveyors, solicitors, valuers etc. in a variety of situations
Experience in local government and an in-depth understanding of land and legalisation processes
The ability to interpret legislation and case law
Experience in working with and across various departments, as such collaboration skills are essential.
A flexible working environment is offered, accordingly the ability to work autonomously and efficiently is imperative.

The salary for this position is Grade 14 within Council's salary structure ($69,616 - 81,901 gross per annum pro rata) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
