Wellington City Council is on track deliver the most ambitious capital works programme our city has ever seen. The Infrastructure & Delivery group is central to much of this mahi.
We are looking for a new Project Manager to join the Major Capital Projects team, working primarily on Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui (Wellington Central Library) project, a seismic strengthening and refurbishment project for one of Wellington's most loved and high-profile buildings.
The person we're looking for will work very closely with the project team on several areas, including the procurement of Furniture, Fittings, and Equipment (FF&E) for the refurbished building. This is no ordinary project manager role, you'll have the opportunity to work on a unique project that will leave a lasting legacy on the city, and its spiritual heart Te Ngakau Civic Square.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an experienced team - including an accomplished Project Director as well as the role's manager, Andrea Thomas , who has previously worked on the creation of the Waitohi Hub in Johnsonville. She puts her trust in people and creates the environment for them to do their best. The emphasis is on teamwork- there's no micromanagement, plenty of humour and no hierarchy. The team is small, but vital and supportive - everyone plays a part at the centre of the project.
We're looking for someone who is flexible, able to work at pace. You'll have experience working in FF&E procurement and logistics, along with the usual attributes of a project manager - attention to detail, great time management, excellent communication and relationship building skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Project. You will be keen to work on a project that will play a key part in reinvigorating Te Ngakau, and also creating a space that Wellingtonians will use and enjoy for generations to come. You will also use your expertise and knowledge as you work on other projects across the Major Capital Project team.
You'll be based at our Boulcott Street offices, and actively involved in site visits with opportunities working with our executive leadership team and elected members.
