We are a small construction management company specialising in residential and commercial projects, overseeing the development of new homes and subdivisions in the Greater Wellington Region. The Role We are seeking an individual with the right skills and a positive attitude to join our team in residential and commercial construction. This technical position requires strong knowledge and experience in residential and commercial building practices, particularly NZS 3604.
The role will report directly to the Company Project Manager, and will be provided with a company vehicle and phone.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of projects across Wellington Update the company reporting system and keep the Project Manager and Director informed on job progress Review architectural and engineering drawings for potential issues, coordinating remediation as needed Prepare sites for construction, including conducting safety meetings with tradespeople and managing health and safety documentation via the HazardCo system Maintain regular communication with sub-contractors and suppliers about work allocation, timelines, and expectations Schedule jobs according to company requirements and ensure adherence to timelines Ensure on-site quality control and compliance with Council inspections Complete practical completion checklists for finished units, ensuring they meet the highest standards before client handover Manage any identified defects Compile and submit code of compliance documentation Foster professional relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and consultants Skills and Experience: Strong knowledge of NZS 3604 and familiarity with other NZ construction codes and standards Minimum of 3 years' experience in Site Management or Project Management within the residential construction sector in New Zealand Experience managing construction on multi-unit sites, including terrace houses and apartments Ability to oversee projects from foundation to completion Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a diverse workforce Capacity to identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies Proven ability to build and maintain professional client relationships and manage sub-contractors and directly employed tradespeople Proficient in producing project plans, scheduling, and material procurement (training available if needed) Solid understanding of the Health and Safety Act and ability to implement its requirements You must be able to work in NZ legally.
