The Central Interceptor Pt Erin tunnel is on track for completion in 2026. By then, it will be fully operational up to Grey Lynn. The tunnel will lie between 15 and 110 metres below the city surface and run from Herne Bay to Mangere. With a diameter of 4.5m, the tunnel will be high enough to fit a standing giraffe inside.
Along with two smaller link sewer tunnels also under construction, the main CI tunnel will collect wastewater from the existing network and take it to the Mangere Wastewater Treatment Plant – with a controlled flow rate. The tunnel slopes at a gradient of 1:1000 so wastewater can flow downhill to Mangere.
As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the site planning, organising and coordinating the successful completion of allocated packages of works at site. This includes the management of all resources (material, labour, subcontractors and plant & machinery) and direct involvement in temporary works management, programme and budget control. You will also be responsible for the safety, quality and environmental compliance.
This is a full-time, fixed-term contract until August 2025.
What you will get involved in:
CFA piling, shaft excavation, mined audits, GRP shaft construction
Participate at site meetings and record detailed notes and/or minutes
Documentation and filing of all project information
Monitor, track and assess subcontractor, supplier and plant dockets
Compilation of incoming material certification records, ITPs and checklists
Assist with the monitoring of works to ensure that they are conducted in line with all relevant designs, specifications, methodologies
Assist in the preparation of safety, quality and environmental plans, including safe work method statements and construction method statements, ITPs, and purchasing plans
Develop and maintain site registers
Work with the Site Supervisor and management to update and maintain project programmes
Manage procurement for the materials, plant & equipment onsite
Assist management with planning and engineering activities
Preparation of weekly reporting, progress reports & tracking
Skills and experience required:
Minimum 5 years' experience working on civil infrastructure projects
Degree qualification in engineering, construction management or equivalent
Technical experience and understanding of heavy civil construction
Proven experience working on large-scale infrastructure/civil engineering projects
Proficient in MS Project and Excel
Positive and proactive approach toward teamwork
Sound planning and organisational skills
Progressive thinking and robust project administration capabilities
Strong, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
