Nga kawenga | About the role The Department is responding to changes in Law and Order which forecast a rising prison population over the next 10 years. As a part of our purpose in maintaining public safety, improving rehabilitation outcomes, and reducing Maori representation, the Department is undertaking a prison capacity programme. Christchurch Men Prison (CMP) is the next prison to require substantial improvements. Consequently, an exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced Programme Director to lead the Christchurch Men's Prison (CMP) redevelopment programme. This is an opportunity, at the beginning of a large complex programme, to shape and run one of the main vertical asset construction programmes in the South Island. As the Programme Director you will build and manage a capable team, ensuring all contracts and agreements are effectively administered. You will define the desired future state of the prison in collaboration with key stakeholders and develop an Operational Readiness Plan to transition smoothly to the new setup. The role requires strong leadership in managing project management teams, overseeing governance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. As the Programme Director you will also manage the programme budget, oversee financial controls, and provide regular reports to the CMP Programme Board. This is a chance to make a significant impact on the correctional system and contribute to the successful delivery of a high-profile redevelopment project. To be successful in this role you will bring: In-depth understanding of infrastructure asset development. Programme management skills and experience, ideally in the infrastructure domain. Strong change management capability, and demonstrated experience in complex change management environments involving critical infrastructure and operations. Demonstrated knowledge of complex strategic partnership commercial and financial arrangements that extract best value outcomes. Proven ability to build high performing teams in complex and high-pressure commercial environments. Proven ability to build highly effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. There will be a requirement to travel as needed for this position. The midpoint of the salary range is $202,140 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $171,819 - $242,568 per annum.
