Professional Practice Fellow | Senior Professional Practice Fellow (Lead Tutor Clinical Skills) - 2401994 Te Pokapu Aurorotanga/Centre for Early Learning in Medicine (CELM) at Otago Medical School is recruiting for a Professional Practice Fellow/Senior Professional Practice Fellow for the role of ELM 3 Clinical Skills Lead Tutor in our Early Learning in Medicine (ELM) programme, based in Dunedin.
Staff in the CELM, the Dunedin School of Medicine (DSM), and School of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) are responsible for teaching in years 2 & 3 (ELM) of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) Programme.
ELM consists of a series of modules that utilize lecture, laboratory, tutorial, healthcare, and community-based learning opportunities, covering a curriculum framework based on holistic models of care (Te Whare Tapa Wha; Fonofale; biopsychosocial).
Included are three modules coordinated out of CELM taught mainly in small group tutorial sessions (11-13 students): Clinical Skills, Early Professional Experience, and Integrated Cases.
Clinical Skills delivers instruction in history taking, physical examination, and clinical reasoning skills. Peer examination, simulated patients (actors), and volunteer patients from the community provide opportunities for practice of clinical skills, with instruction and facilitation by medically qualified tutors.
The role/Te mahi The ELM 3 Clinical Skills Lead Tutor supports the Clinical Skills vertical module. This includes, under the supervision of the Clinical Skills Convener, designing, developing, and delivering learning materials, tutorials, and assessment. Other key tasks include providing feedback on both the academic and professional development of students, tutor training and support, and supporting the wider programme delivery activities undertaken by CELM.
Applicants with an interest in research will have opportunities to contribute to medical education research projects within CELM. Applicants will be expected to work in the CELM offices in Dunedin.
Minimum Requirements Ideally, applicants will hold a medical qualification and have a background in health education at an undergraduate level or in clinical environments. Other health professionals with the required skill set will be considered.

The successful candidate will be appointed as either a Professional Practice Fellow/Senior Professional Practice Fellow, dependent on skills, qualifications, and experience.
The University of Otago salary band for Professional Practice Fellows is $70,692 to $96,058, for a Senior Professional Practice Fellow it is $98,640 to $128,305 per annum on a pro-rata basis.
The salary band for Professional Practice Fellow – Medical & Dental is $75,231 to $98,857, for a Senior Professional Practice Fellow - Medical & Dental it is $102,270 to $172,693 per annum on a pro-rata basis.
