Production Manager 2025/26An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at the newly minted Hutt View Farming LP, located 12 minutes north west of Ashburton at Winchmore.Hutt View Farming is looking to form and grow a mutually beneficial relationship with a leader who has excellent communication skills and whose values include constant improvement toward excellence. The ideal person will excel in their staff management, animal husbandry, irrigation, feed budgeting, wintering, calving and mating. The person we are seeking must be a 'driver', not someone who needs steering. This role can be tailored to your strengths and driven by your goals.The 1,850 strong, predominantly crossbred cows are milked through two rotary dairies (80 bale/44 bale) split into four mainstream herds. Both sheds are equipped with automatic cup removers, in-shed feeding, and other technology.The milking platform is 510 ha effective, featuring high-quality pastures and full spray irrigation. A knowledge of Minda, ProTrack and Waikato Milking Plants would be an advantage.Historical production up to 1 million+ kg total milk solids; 520+ kg MS/cow; 2,000+ kg MS/ha.As the Production Manager, in conjunction with the business owner, you will be responsible for implementing operations ensuring optimal productivity, efficiency and people engagement are carried out at par excellence levels daily.Housing options available include, but are not limited to, a large 5-bedroom family home.School bus service is available for both primary and secondary schooling at the gate.Experience is essential and must be a current New Zealand Resident. Applications close 19 January 2025.Key Responsibilities – undertaken in conjunction with business ownerPeople ManagementSupervise, mentor and motivate farm staff to strive for excellence daily.Be consistent and effective with communication, ensuring all the team are fully conversant with what is happening on a daily basis.Support the training and development of team members to meet their career aspirations.Livestock ManagementMonitor the health, nutrition, and welfare of the dairy herd on a daily basis.Assist to implement and oversee breeding programs to maintain and improve herd genetics.Manage milking schedules to optimise people efficiency, milk yield and quality.Co-ordinate with veterinarians for disease prevention and treatment.
