Product Specialist @ HnryWellington, New ZealandPermanent, full timeHnry takes the hassle out of being a self-employed individual by taking care of all the financial admin - everything from Invoicing and Payments through to Expenses and Taxes.
We're taking a traditionally labour-intensive and stressful set of tasks, and automating them wherever we can, delivering great experiences and online tools for our users, and making their lives easier.
Working directly with one of our Product Managers, the Product Specialist is a key part of our cross-functional delivery squads, working with stakeholders, engineers and designers to deliver measurable contributions towards Hnry's business outcomes, both via our external customer-facing app and within internal-facing systems.ResponsibilitiesBeing the internal SME for one or many areas of the Hnry service, understanding at a deep level the 'why' of these areas, and being the go-to person for that specialist knowledge.Collaborate with others to maintain and manage the backlog of potential changes/improvements in those areas, working with key stakeholders from around the business to facilitate prioritisation decisions, championing those improvements that contribute towards key strategic business outcomes.Work within a delivery squad (our highly collaborative, cross-functional teams made up of engineers and internal customer representatives), to plan and incrementally deliver those changes, making measurable contributions towards one or many business outcomes.Monitor and measure the internal and external customer impacts of those changes and measure the effectiveness of changes over time.Contribute to right-sized documentation for areas of the Hnry service, documenting your knowledge, key decisions, dependencies and target outcomes, without resorting to writing narrative essays or unnecessarily complex documents/presentations.Continually analyse data, trends and wider business insights, to help drive better decision-making and inform prioritisation decisions.Follow our internal best-practices to build, measure and learn at pace - championing the release of new change incrementally, focusing on delivering the 'smallest increment of measurable value.
'Regularly engage with internal and external users to understand their priorities, their experiences, and feeding that insight back into the squad and the wider business.Collaborate with our internal Marketing team when new externally-facing changes are brought to market.Work closely with our Product Designers to deliver great experiences, both online and offline, for Hnry customers.You willHave the ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
Driving achievements with a strong work ethic and curiosity for growth.Experience in a product or analyst role.Experience collaborating and working closely with software engineers.Have excellent written communication and collaboration skills — we work together and succeed as a team.Have full working rights in New Zealand.Bonus points for the following:Experience being self-employed (freelancing, contracting etc) in any industry/profession.Experience of working in a fast-paced, agile workplace.Experience with customer engagement platforms such as Intercom, Hubspot etc.How we workWe follow agile practices, delivering improvements iteratively in small chunks.
We track the impact of our work and measure ourselves on results, not the amount of code written.
We're growing fast, and are focused on building a well designed, scalable & robust platform.
In some areas of the work (e.g.
payment processing) there is very little margin for error.
Our technology platform is built in Ruby on Rails, and we also use a bunch of AWS services (via Terraform), Postgres, Docker, and a little bit of React.
We have automated tests, continuous deployment, and release to production multiple times per day.
We review each others code, and set aside time for hacking on experimental features, refactoring and/or learning new things.
