About the Role The Process & Equipment Engineer (PE) will work to optimise the operations by implementing and maintaining process controls to maximise safety, quality, and profitability. You will be focused on business improvement, process technologies, and delivering improvements in customer quality and efficiencies. With an understanding of the overall process, the PE will identify areas of loss and opportunities and then deliver value to the business.
Actively identify and participate in process & equipment improvements and monitor improvements/solutions in the plant post implementation in support of the Operational Excellence program. Process & equipment scope of responsibility includes every production asset (Extrusion, Slitting, Printing, Conversion, Utilities) and lead or participate in investment projects. Production equipment maintenance planning will focus on the Porirua site and adjacent supply chain. Support to the Auckland Sealed Air site may be required occasionally.
Responsibilities Maintain a culture of safety first always, including participating in hazard assessments, safety shop floor observations, wearing appropriate PPE, reporting all incidents, near misses, and cooperating in accident investigations and supporting procedural updates and implementation where required.
Develop processes to be trouble-free and strive for zero defects and zero unfavorable variances.
Troubleshoot technical issues when production and quality experience challenges, providing support to the team with escalated troubleshooting on more complicated issues.
Own loss analysis of the line and engage the line team in loss analysis, deploying loss elimination targets, and managing loss elimination activities of the line.
Achieve agreed targets in the reduction of waste, yield optimization (end-to-end), efficiency process improvements, recovery of waste, and sustainability improvements through analysis and coordination of wider business resources.
Identify process bottlenecks and develop improvements to maximise product yield, minimise operational costs, and reduce customer impact.
Manage the day-to-day creation and allocation of jobs to maintenance staff in conjunction with priorities set by the Group Maintenance Leader.
Using Six Sigma or similar methodology, lead cross-functional teams to deliver results in close liaison with operations.
Serve as the backup role for utilities equipment & buildings activities.
Write, present, and publish reports on findings and outcomes as required to support wider business engagement and improvement.
Qualifications Engineering/technical and/or Chemical/plastics degree
Six Sigma training or similar methodology
Knowledge/exposure with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
Ability to participate and manage multiple projects and priorities on an ongoing basis
Ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organization
