An expansive strategic, long-term vision that focuses on celebrating and supporting Pacific excellence has been developed with these aspirations in mind.The Role/Te mahiThe Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Pacific) is a new role that will necessarily be further shaped by the incumbent once they are in place. This includes the position description that will be honed by the incumbent and evolve over time, as will the nature of the Office of the PVC / DVC (Pacific) and the roles of the staff members within that office.This role will lead the Pacific academic agenda at the University of Otago and will lead the rollout of Pacific strategic commitments expressed in Pae Tata and Vision 2040: transforming lives, connecting communities, and nurturing the environment. This includes strengthening our place as a university firmly rooted in the Pacific region. The person in this role will uphold the University's vision of being Te Tiriti o Waitangi led, and will lead the Office in implementing and monitoring the Pacific Strategic Framework 2022–2030.This role is a key member of the senior leadership team and as such will work closely with key stakeholders including the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice-Chancellors and the Office of the PVC/DVC (Pacific) to advance Pacific academic excellence at the University to increase levels of student participation, retention and success.The position is advertised as Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Deputy Vice-Chancellor, as the selection panel will make a recommendation for which level the role is appointed at following candidate interviews.Skills And Experience/Ka Pukeka Me Ka WheakoThis position offers an exciting and unique opportunity to lead the University's new phase of engagement with the Pacific. Candidates will ideally have:High standing within Pacific communities.Capability with a Pacific language or languages (fluency is desirable though not essential).High standing in Pacific research and pedagogy.A current research programme at a high international standard and a commitment to maintaining this while serving as Pro-Vice-Chancellor / Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Pacific).Demonstrated transformative leadership ability and experience in a university or wananga (in a role such as Tumuaki, Dean or Head of Department) or a comparable research or professional practice.Energy and enthusiasm in leading change that inspires a positive culture of transformation.Further details/PurokoThis is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) position, located in Dunedin.
