With the development of new learning spaces underway along with Y7–10 curriculum review and a new strategic plan, Ellesmere College - Te Kareti o Waihora is poised for an exciting future. Our college, situated in Leeston in the rapidly growing Selwyn District, is a rural college providing quality education to Y7–13 students in the region.
We are now on the search for a tumuaki to put the building blocks together and lead us forward so that learning matches the excitement of the new build. Our predicted starting roll in 2025 is 540 students and we employ 61 staff on the site with an allocated staffing entitlement of 38.2 provided by the MOE.
The college enjoys a growing relationship with local Runanga based at the Taumutu marae and is also part of the Nga Matapuna o te Waihora Kahui Ako along with three primary schools and six early childhood centres who actively collaborate to improve outcomes for all.
Our people have indicated the key qualities they wish to see in the new tumuaki:
Someone who understands the special nature of a rural school and its place in the community
A person who connects with the local community people, iwi and organisations to work together for the improvement of learning and wellbeing in our akonga
Relationship focused with strong inter-personal skills based on listening, valuing and care
Visible and interacts with the students in a wide variety of ways
Effective communication skills and can engage an audience.
This is an opportunity for someone who appreciates rural communities and all they offer. There is so much to do in the region with the rivers, mountains, sea and we are close to the opportunities Christchurch offers.
