Supporting our school to be successful
St Mary's Primary School is seeking to appoint a Principal / Tumuaki for a fixed-term of at least one term in 2025, and up to four terms. Located in Hokitika on the West Coast, our school is closely connected to its local community and Catholic Mercy School Special Character. To reflect these features, we are seeking a candidate who will honour our Special Character and is used to smaller town life or seeking a change of pace.
St Mary's School is a smaller school with around 125 students across six classrooms. The size of our school means we can provide high-quality, personalised learning that leverages the many opportunities available within our community, parish and natural environment. Our community and parish are important features of our school's culture. To ensure these close relationships are maintained, our next Principal / Tumuaki should have experience building trust-based, reciprocal relationships with the community.
A successful candidate will need to:
Be an effective school leader with experience in school leadership and management.
Have good communication skills with a history of building positive, trust-based, effective relationships with akonga, staff, whanau, Board, our parish, and community.
Be able to honour the history, values, virtues and surrounding environment of our school, particularly our Catholic Special Character and giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Foster a positive school culture which promotes student achievement and wellbeing, including staff wellbeing.
Be committed to providing a wide range of learning opportunities for all akonga.
Value the role of the community in supporting learners' achievement.
This role would be suitable for a candidate who is comfortable working in a leadership capacity and is personable, passionate and able to foster positive relationships across the school and our community.
