Mo te tunga About the roleThis is an exciting fixed term opportunity to provide parental leave cover from late-June 2024 until late-July 2025. You will lead the NZDF's high-performing media team to tell the story of the important work our people do for New Zealand. You will provide strategic and operational media and communications advice. Your outputs will ensure effective media and communications outcomes for the NZDF, supporting transparency.You will be required to : Ensure the media team is managed effectively and efficiently to provide a proactive and reactive high-quality, responsive media relations service on behalf of the NZDF. Provide advice to the Office of the Chief of Defence Force and other senior leaders on media matters. Ensure media enquiries are handled in a timely manner with appropriate transparency. Contribute to the critical incident media team. Oversee the provision of media training to NZDF personnel at all levels.This role is based at Defence House in Wellington CBD. Flexible working arrangements are negotiable once you have undergone training and are up to speed.You will be required to go on an on-call roster responding to media enquiries outside of regular office hours, for which you will receive additional compensation. You understand the current media landscape and can identify opportunities for the NZDF.You are confident in successfully delivering complex communication and strategies. Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills are essential to be successful in this role.You will have : The ability to generate creative and practical ideas and solutions to problems. A commitment to continuous learning in the field. Experience working in a complex organisation to deliver communications / public relations. Confident communication on multiple mediums. A tertiary qualification in public relations, communications or a related discipline (desired).You will be managing up to three direct reports so management experience is advantageous, but not essential. Support will be provided to develop your management skills if needed.This role requires occasional domestic travel to the NZDF's Camps and Bases.
