As System Operator, we operate the wholesale electricity market and ensure supply (provided by generators) matches demand (by electricity users). We are also responsible for ensuring New Zealand's electricity system is reliable, competitive, and innovative as we play an integral role in the planning of New Zealand's electricity future.Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.About the teamThe Market Services group supports real-time delivery of the System Operator service and provides information to enable a market response to evolving conditions, including risks to security of supply, procures specialist market products (such as ancillary services), and supports stakeholder engagement with the System Operator. You will be joining a small, collaborative, and expert team who are integral to the power system's ability to keep the lights on for homes, business, and communities across the motu.Taking on a key role in the team, you'll draw on deep energy markets expertise and a strategic future-focus to lead market policy and development initiatives from conceptual stage to delivery.You'll also work across the Market Services group to advise, share knowledge with, and mentor colleagues, contributing to their development as individuals and collectively as a high-performing team. Your work will leverage bold, innovative thinking and fresh perspectives that complement and expand on the knowledge base over the wider team and encourages them to think beyond current models and standards to enable Aotearoa New Zealand's energy future.With no two days the same, you'll:Proactively support Transpower to deliver the system operator service in real-time and as the electricity industry evolves into the future.Actively lead system operator contributions to future market and system operations developments, including through strategic, influential white papers, and cross-industry forums and initiatives.Manage regular reviews of key system operations documents, including leading effective consultation with industry stakeholders.Act as a lead system operations expert interfacing with the Electricity Authority and industry participants.Lead system operations change initiatives as a subject matter expert, from concept into delivery.Whilst preferably and ideally Wellington based, for the ideal candidate, we are open to considering other locations where Transpower has an office.To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:A minimum of 10 years' experience working in a technical or technical leadership capacity in an electricity market/system or comparable industry.Ability to deliver clear, accessible written and verbal communications.Proven experience working and thinking strategically.Ability to convey complex technical concepts simply and succinctly.Strong delivery focus coupled with the ability to be strategic and take a long-term big picture view.Proven ability to surface, frame, and problem-solve key issues at pace and with agility.A tertiary qualification in mathematics, science, engineering, economics, operations research, or a related field is a requirement of the role.While not essential, extensive knowledge of the Aotearoa New Zealand electricity market and system and an excellent understanding of the key issues impacting the electricity industry, market, and security of supply would be advantageous.Join us at TranspowerAotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
