We play a crucial role in ensuring the transport system is working to improve prosperity for New Zealanders.The Ministry is a small, agile, and friendly organisation which maintains a culture that is collaborative, bold, and invested.About the opportunityLed by our Chief Economist and Manager, our friendly Economics team is responsible for providing economic advice and economic appraisal services across the Ministry. Our goal is to enable the delivery of excellent advice and provide insights derived from the latest evidence.You will need to be confident working across the organisation to support and influence policy through economic advice. You will lead economic and cost benefit analyses on a range of transport matters and provide technical review of draft policy documents (including cost recovery and regulatory impact statements) prepared by other areas of the Ministry. You will provide expert advice and solid leadership, coach and mentor other staff to build the overall capability of the team and support greater use of economic frameworks in advice across the Ministry.What you'll bringThis is an excellent opportunity to use your previous relevant experience within central government organisations and contribute to better policy decisions using your economic knowledge. You will need:The ability to communicate complex technical information and convey the key findings from economic analysis into plain EnglishExcellent interpersonal skillsA post-graduate qualification in an economic field, with a strong quantitative backgroundExtensive experience in applying and guiding the use of economic concepts, principles, frameworks and techniques in different contexts to dissect, identify and solve policy issuesProven ability to lead projects or aid in their delivery via a support rolePrevious experience coaching and mentoring in a leading roleSalary rangeThe base salary range for this position is $127,142 - $155,000 per annum (+ KiwiSaver).
