The Mayor is supported by an independent office within the Council administration, providing services such as executive support and advice, diary and financial management, communications and media, events, and functions, and creative and protocol to ensure delivery of these key areas.
The Principal Communications Advisor is responsible for delivering a strategic program of proactive internal and external communications and media support services in support of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
They lead the development and implementation of a communication and media strategy for the office and provide ongoing support to members of the office team and wider Council teams to deliver on the strategic direction set by the Mayor and Council.
Reporting to Nadine Walker, you will receive clear direction and be empowered to work collaboratively and strategically with the wider team, who are focused on supporting and driving the work programme of Mayor Whanau and the Council.
We are looking for someone with strategic communications skills who will take on the role with energy, political nous, and experience supporting senior leaders either in the political or private sphere.
You will be well versed in strategic communications and engagement in a dynamic and fast-paced political environment.
You will demonstrate the ability to lead the development of media and communications strategies through a wide variety of channels, coupled with managing key stakeholder relationships.
