Details of the offer

Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for asset management experts.
We plan to invest nearly $300 billion in infrastructure between 2024-2054 (86% of council's budget to 2034). When you add in non-infrastructure assets it gets even larger, and we want your expertise to help ensure ratepayers' funds are used wisely and that we sustainably deliver the right services to the people of Auckland.
We have started a major journey of transformation to align with the ISO55000 series, starting with developing an asset management policy and committee. We're now setting up an Asset Management Centre of Excellence to drive high performance across the organisation and set us on a path to being the best performing local government in Australasia.
Seven new roles have been created in the Asset Management Centre of Excellence, a manager and six principal level roles. These individuals will be expected to work collaboratively across Auckland Council to continuously improve our broader asset management system. You will provide a hub of expertise linking policy to practice.
Through consistent approaches, tools and guidance, the Asset Management Centre of Excellence will enable better long-term decision making by providing a consistent picture of our assets and the services they provide to our decision makers. Decisions can then be based on service need and sustainability across portfolios.
With a renewed focus on the importance of asset management, driven enthusiastically by our new Chief Executive and supported by the Executive Leadership Team, this is a rare opportunity to make a significant difference in one of the largest asset owning entities in New Zealand. You will get to shape a new, better asset management system for the benefit of all Aucklanders.
As Principal - Asset Information Strategy, you will:
Enable transparent evidence-based asset management and investment decisions at both a governance and operational level.Drive best practice, consistent and efficient data collection, storage and use so that good-quality decisions can be made with a full understanding of risks and implications.Collaborate with data and information technology teams to deliver great data governance. You are an expert in asset management with extensive experience focusing on the management of asset data and supporting systems and processes.
We will value your excellent communication skills, including your ability to explain your ideas to non-technical audiences, your enthusiasm for collaborating widely, and your ability to develop a strong network of contacts across multiple organisations. The ability to translate information between asset owners and data specialists will be essential.
You have a strong understanding of the reporting needs of various stakeholders and the tools and standards that can meet these needs.
You have a passion for continuous improvement and providing quality information from data in the asset management system.
With a strategic approach to problem solving, you have the natural ability to simplify big and complicated issues.
Local Government experience is an advantage but not essential.
Auckland Council is the largest territorial authority in Australasia providing essential services and facilities to more than 1.6 million people. You'll be joining a team of dedicated and respected experts who work collaboratively towards creating a sustainable and resilient Auckland.
In addition to our employee benefits, we work flexibly and provide opportunities for professional development.
Apply now - together we can create an Auckland we can all be proud of. See the position description for more information. Contact Shar Mahon on 027-769-1880 or ****** for a confidential chat.
Applications close on Wednesday 18 September 2024. This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing. A full driver's license is a requirement. Auckland Council is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) and we are committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion. If you have any support or access requirements, we encourage you to advise us at the time of application to assist you through the recruitment process.
