This captures the spirit the Government brings to its work with the Royal Commission, and to what we, the Crown Response Unit does in response to the Royal Commission's recommendations.The Crown Response Unit coordinates the Government's response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions (the Royal Commission).The Royal Commission was established in 2018 to examine the nature and extent of abuse of children, young people, and vulnerable adults in care from 1950 to 1999.
The Royal Commission ended on 25 June 2024 and its final report Whanaketia – Through Pain and trauma, from darkness to light was publicly released on Wednesday 24 July 2024.The Crown response work programme is focused on responding to the Royal Commission's final report as well as its 2021 report, He Purapura Ora, he Mara Tipu from Redress to Puretumu Torowhanui.The Crown Response Unit is governed by a Sponsoring Group of six public service chief executives.
The nominated lead Chief Executive to oversee the Crown's response to the Royal Commission is currently the Secretary for Education, who reports to the Lead Coordination Minister for the Government's Response to the Royal Commission's Report into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions, Minister Erica Stanford.About the role | Mo te turangaBased in the Corporate Services team, the purpose of the Principal Advisor Strategy role is to play a key role in developing the strategic direction of the Crown Response Unit and how that strategy is implemented.
This role will work with the Head of Corporate Services in developing the overall strategic direction, including strategic options that we are expected to deliver on.
