We're seeking an experienced public transport practitioner passionate about enhancing the planning, procurement, delivery, and monitoring of public transport in Aotearoa. This role offers an exciting opportunity to integrate across different disciplines, regions, and sector stakeholders to foster best practice nationally.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
NZTA's Public Transport team is part of a Multimodal Integration team that brings multi-modal expertise with an innovation lens and an eye out to the future. We work with central and local government, the private sector, and academia to provide diversity of thought, explore innovative transport solutions, and build capability across the sector.
As Principal Advisor Public Transport Policy, you will lead and deliver initiatives to continuously improve NZTA's Public Transport Framework. The framework comprises policy, requirements, and guidance that shapes the planning, procurement, delivery, and monitoring of public transport in Aotearoa.
Key accountabilities include:
Leading the development and implementation of initiatives to give effect to government direction and policy across all modes of public transport.
Leading the development and ongoing improvement of NZTA's Public Transport Framework.
Working with internal teams and external partners, including government entities, public transport authorities, transport operators, and other key stakeholders to leverage expertise and foster best practice nationally.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Significant relevant experience within the public transport sector.
Proven experience working with partners and stakeholders to align evidence, outcomes, and prioritize coordinated action in complex environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
A good understanding of how local and central government operates and experience navigating decision-making processes.
