Central government reform processes with implications for our sector continue to evolve and roll out and we need to consider what will meet the needs of our community and plan for the future. In this context, strategic thinking and analysis is critical to a large organisation like Christchurch City Council.The work of the Strategic Policy Team touches on almost all aspects of Council activities and supports a systems-view and connection across the organisation. We help the Council to chart its direction and prepare key strategic documents mapping this out. The Team also manage a busy policy and regulatory work programme, responding to local issues and providing sound guidance for the organisation.About the role | Ko te mahi neiAs a senior member of the Strategic Policy team, the Principal Advisor Policy takes responsibility for:Providing thought leadership across a range of strategy and policy matters, including in particular economic, financial and funding policy issuesAnalysing the strategic impacts for the Council of the Government reform programme, and engaging across our sector and central GovernmentMentoring team members analysing a range of complex policy problemsProviding strategic policy advice to the operational side of the CouncilChallenging existing frameworks and constructively debating the way forwardKey to the role is the ability to establish good relationships and to clearly communicate sound, pragmatic advice. Additionally, you will:Hold a tertiary qualification in a policy related discipline, and at least 10 years experience in policy development including experience in economic and financial policyHave an understanding of the place of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in New Zealand including as it affects the role of a public servantHave excellent written, verbal and inter-personal communication skillsBe able to produce and recognise high quality policy workHave the ability to provide support and coaching to colleagues when requiredWhat's in it for you?
