The Ministerial Services team provides timely, comprehensive, and tailored Ministerial services, including the release of information to Ministers and Parliament, and responses to parliamentary, customer, and public requests for information.
The Principal Advisor plays a critical role in this team. The Principal Advisor takes the lead in managing the team's project work, including actions related to the Ombudsman's Official Information Act compliance and practice investigation.
Extensive knowledge of, and experience working with, relevant legislation and machinery of government is essential. The Principal Advisor will also provide support to the management team and assist in building correspondence capability within the team and across the Ministry.
You must be someone who has a strong service ethic and a positive attitude, who takes ownership of their work and drives it through delivery.
The role will require an ability to prioritise and reprioritise a busy, fast-paced work programme. You will be comfortable dealing with a reasonable level of ambiguity.
You will need to be able to see the bigger picture and make connections across work areas. The role is highly collaborative and you will need the confidence to develop and manage relationships at all levels across the Ministry.
You will be able to develop trust and credibility with others. You will be a positive role model for others in the team and for our customers across the Ministry.

extensive knowledge of Ministerial and Parliamentary processes, and legislation governing access to official informationexpert relationship management skills and the ability to partner effectively with leaders, establishing credibility and trustsuperior written and oral communication skillsenergy to thrive in a fast-paced and time-bound environment, with a positive can-do attitudea collaborative working style with a focus on providing excellence in your own work, as well as the ability to lead others to shared successat least seven years of experience of working in the public service.Ministerial Services primarily works from the Justice Centre in Thorndon, Wellington. The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
