Principal Advisor, Mental Health and Addiction Regulation | WellingtonSecondment or fixed term opportunity (9 months)Regulatory role in mental health and addiction to ensure the system is working as required through legislation, protecting the rights of consumersSalary midpoint of $140,938 depending on experienceKo ake mahi - What you'll doThis is a fixed-term or secondment opportunity for an experienced Principal Advisor to join the team. This team supports the Director of Mental Health and Addiction's regulatory roles.The team:Monitors and reports on the mental health system's compliance with legal requirementsAdministers the rules and permissions for individuals who are subject to compulsory assessments and treatmentsAdvises the Director of Mental Health and Addiction, and the MinisterRegulates the system that enables recreational drugs to be tested to minimise harmThe principal advisor will be expected to:Understand the New Zealand health and disability sectorHelp strengthen the Ministry's regulatory roleProvide high quality advice and support to the Director of Mental Health and Addiction that is legally robust and appropriately balances all the relevant factorsEngage with service providers and organisations that are subject to regulatory requirementsSupport, coach, and mentor other members of the teamBe able to operate without a high degree of direction, using initiative and judgement to know how to manage risks and escalate appropriatelyAt Manatu Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.The Director of Mental Health and Addictions has statutory responsibility for administering Mental Health, Substance Addiction and Intellectual Disability legislation. We support services to deliver effective mental health, addiction treatment and compulsory care for their areas of responsibility.
