Position Title : Principal Advisor Communications ProjectsBusiness Unit : Communications and Ministerial ServicesBusiness Group : Corporate ServicesTe Haeata / The OpportunityWe are looking for a Principal Advisor Communications Projects who will provide thought leadership, expert advice, and professional communications support to business groups across the Ministry.Reporting to the General Manager Communication and Ministerial Services, this position works across the Ministry and plays a lead role in ensuring we tell our story externally and internally to achieve our strategic objectives.The position will lead on the development of proactive communications opportunities, related design thinking, and storytelling across our work programme.A specialist and technical leadership role, the Principal Advisor works in collaboration with the Ministry's Communication and Ministerial Services team and other teams within the Ministry, including the Ministry's Strategic Leadership Team and senior managers.Key accountabilities will include :Leading the development and embedding of the proactive media and communications strategy, ensuring alignment with internal and external Ministry priorities, the Ministry's strategy, and the overall Communication Services strategy.Provision of services including the development of proactive communications opportunities, related design thinking, and storytelling across our work programme.Leveraging a strong and trusted partnership with colleagues across the Ministry and the entities that we service and key external stakeholders such as media outlets and key journalists, and counterparts in other justice sector agencies.Building and maintaining strong partnerships internally and externally to ensure that our messages and stories are targeted to the right audiences at the right time meeting the aims of our strategy, including with external companies providing specialist services such as video and photography.Role modelling the organisations values, championing its mission and strategic priorities, particularly improving justice outcomes for Maori, and ensuring a place where all our people can thrive.The Principal Advisor would also be expected to play a role in crisis and emergency situations by leading communications staff in their area or being operational as part of a response team.O pukenga / Skills and ExperienceTo be successful in the role you will bring :Experience in developing and delivering high quality expert advice on proactive strategic communications opportunities, risks and issues.Significant experience building and maintaining stakeholder relationships.Superior written and oral communication skills with a solid understanding of the mechanics of story-telling production including design, editing, and channel management.At least five years working in media outside of government, preferably in journalism, would be an advantage.Strong working knowledge of the Official Information and Privacy Acts, and familiarity with the Treaty of Waitangi and its application to the work of government agencies.Experience incorporating Te Reo Maori and/or whakaaro Maori principles into communications.Ability to bring multiple information sources together and make the complicated simple.Mo matou / About usAt Te Tahu o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice, we're committed to working together for a fair and safe Aotearoa.The Communication Services teams enables the Ministry to connect internally and engage externally with a range of stakeholders and with the general public.Joining Te Tahu o te Ture means you will become part of an organisation that welcomes and supports people of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities and religions.Nga painga o tenei wahi mahi / What's great about working hereWorking in the Communications Service team at the Ministry of Justice is dynamic, fast-paced and multi-faceted.The team is fantastic to work with and no two days are the same.
