The Principal Advisor Climate Change plays a key role within the Sustainable Futures hub and the Integrated Strategic team, providing evidence-based policy advice and leading the development and implementation of climate change strategies and policies across the Council.This role offers strategic guidance and leadership to support the Council's climate change response, working collaboratively with teams across the organisation to embed climate change thinking and progress key actions.You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work.Key Responsibilities:Support the Strategic Planning Manager and Sustainable Futures Director to build and maintain a happy and high performing team.Provide high quality advice on Climate Change issues, central government policy and targets impacting the Council and their activities.Represent the Council in Climate Change forums and steering and working groups on regional and national level in a way that will contribute to the Council's reputation for excellence and expertise.Develop and deliver high-quality policy advice.Provide leadership in engagement with external and internal stakeholders and manage community engagement on the climate change response programme.Minimum Requirements:Five or more years' experience in a role that included a focus on climate change and/or relevant discipline.Relevant tertiary qualification.Background in climate action initiative design and implementation.Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to work effectively with a wide range of people (internal and external).Additional Information:Flexible on start and finish times.Hybrid working (home and work).Relocation assistance.Piritahi Day – an additional leave day to spend with whanau & friends.Staff Discounts at local retailers and big brands.Allocated training budget for career development and to support professional affiliation membership (where relevant to the role).Work with a great team and enjoy regular, lively social events!Access to reduced health insurance premiums for you and your family through Southern Cross.Walking distance to the CBD.Modern office space.Free eye exams.A culture of health and wellbeing with free EAP services and regular staff wellness initiatives.Annual flu vaccinations and health checks.1 of 6 Unitary Authorities in NZ.Here at Gisborne District Council, we pull our values from the community we serve.
