We have a great opportunity for a Principal Adviser to join our Financial Advice team in either Auckland or Wellington. Ultimately the work you'll do will help support fair outcomes for consumers; and you'll get the opportunity to be part of some interesting, challenging, and thought-provoking work at the forefront of regulatory delivery.
Our Financial Advice team supervises and monitors the financial advice sector, including all Financial Advice Providers (FAPs) ranging from sole advisers,through to large banks, insurers, and investment management providers.
This is a frontline supervisory role where you will have regular engagement with a wide range of FAP related financial market participants. The role is broad, and no two days are the same
You'll have front row seats across the broadest and largest population of entities that FMA regulates, which gives you scope to engage with various sectors of the financial markets. You'll apply your strong analytical skills to interpret legislation we work with and apply it to varied projects and initiatives.
No issue is identical, and the work you do will challenge your analytical thinking.
You'll bring deep technical experience to the team in either operational risk, compliance, auditing, or financial advice. You may come from banking, insurance, fund management, or perhaps another part of the financial services industry.
The following skills and experience are key for this role: Experience within a financial services environment with a leading bank, Financial Advice firm, fund manager, securities house, regulator, or accountancy practice. Demonstrated strength in communication and stakeholder engagement skills - This role involves a good deal of professional writing and working with a wide range of stakeholders. Demonstrated experience within a technical leadership role including coaching and mentoring. Project management experience, including the confidence to lead important pieces of work. Experience and enjoyment in learning and interpreting legislation - and the ambiguity that comes with this! Strong critical thinking and natural curiosity. A great place to work.
