The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Wellington is dedicated to fostering political, social, scientific and cultural connections between Germany and Aotearoa New Zealand.
As an official climate Embassy, climate action is also high on our agenda.
We aim to communicate German politics and foreign policy in a transparent way and to engage with New Zealand audiences via cultural and political events, classical press relations, and our social media channels.
We are seeking a highly organised and creative Press, Communications and Cultural Events Adviser to join our small team, starting from Monday 2 December 2024 .

What You'll Do: Communications: Create and schedule content for our social media platforms, including X, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.
Assist the Head of Press by acting as a first point of contact for the New Zealand and Pacific media.
Gather and take photographs and videos to create social media content.
Stay up to date on current affairs, international politics, and key events of importance to German-New Zealand bilateral relations.
Maintain and update website content using a Content Management System (CMS).
Write engaging social media captions and create social media graphics using Canva.
Build networks with the New Zealand public sector, local non-governmental organisations, journalists, other diplomatic missions in Wellington, and the German community in New Zealand.
Answer general public inquiries.
Events: Assist in planning and coordinating a variety of events, including conferences, seminars, webinars, and corporate functions.
Assist in planning political visits and preparing delegation visits to Aotearoa New Zealand as well as visits to Germany under the German Government's visitor programme.
Coordinate with venues, suppliers, and service providers.
Assist on-site with event-set up, event execution, and troubleshooting.
Support the creation of event information, post-event evaluations and event reports.
Administration: Provide administrative support to the events and communications departments.
Take stock of and order promotional and press materials required at the embassy, such as diplomatic gifts and professional printing materials.
Act as a contact person for alumni matters and assist in scholarship and alumni programmes.
Assist with other tasks and projects as needed.
Who You Are: You show strong attention to detail, a high level of initiative, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
You are happy to work within a fast-paced social media environment which might sometimes require editing a post in the evening or on a weekend.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Having a native proficiency in English is preferred – and a bonus would be if you are bilingual and proficient in German (to at least a B1 level according to the Common Framework of European Languages).
You have an excellent understanding of social media platforms and their audiences; prior experience in communication would be a bonus.
You are highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
You are proficient in using Canva (or are a quick learner of new tools) and have a creative eye for graphic design.
You have some basic understanding of event planning and have some knowledge of audio-visual equipment setup (preferred).
You are highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
