Responsibilities:
Analyse Aotearoa's power system security & engage with industry participants
Develop/validate dynamic simulation models of transmission & generation assets
Support development & deployment of power system tools & ancillary services
Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand - a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.
About the team:
The System Operator Power Systems group is responsible for providing a service of multifaceted power system modelling and analysis, engineering, and risk and assurance management to enable Transpower as System Operator to meet its principal performance obligations under the Electricity Industry Participation Code and successfully operate the New Zealand electricity market and power system today and into the future.
Along with both Power System Development and Engineering Assurance teams, the Power System Engineering team provides real-time power system engineering support for Operations, power system modelling, including dynamic modelling, study of existing and future power system risks and technologies, and work with industry participants to understand how their assets perform against their obligations.
If you are a power system professional who loves a technical challenge and has a passion for renewable energy and strategic thinking, you will find working for the System Operator gives you the opportunity to work at the very heart of enabling a net-zero carbon future.
Working closely with other power system professionals across Transpower, you'll explore and communicate the challenges and opportunities that the transition to a 100% renewable electricity system will bring.
What will you bring?
We are looking for Engineers with experience in time domain simulations, dynamic modelling, and analysing operational challenges of integrating renewable generation. You may be working for a Transmission System Operator, Grid Owner, or Engineering Consultancy, utilising well-developed communication and influencing skills, and an ability to understand, model and analyse complex power systems.
You'll enjoy working both autonomously and as part of a team, with caring knowledgeable peers as you consider the implications of system stability and system security to power system operations.
At Engineer level, to be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field.
Knowledge, and at least 3+ years' experience in modelling and power system analysis. Where applicable, please highlight any reports you have supported or contributed to.
Knowledge with Power System Analysis Tools to support building dynamic power system models and performing load flow and time domain simulations; ideally Siemens PSSE or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
High level, real world analytical skills, problem solving and outstanding attention to detail.
