Play a key role in developing substantive commercial partnerships with Iwi and Maori business.
Champion the organisation's responsibility to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te ao Maori.
Te Tuapae – System Leadership group acts as a trusted advisor and works with the business to set and maintain strategic direction through Te kapehu.
It leads the development of strategic Crown Maori partnerships in land transport.
Te Tuapae – System Leadership uses research, analytics, evaluation, insights, and intelligence that provide evidence-based, investment direction to optimise investment decisions as well as informing central and local government's strategic direction and policy to identify mid to long term views of the land transport system.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity Te Tuapae – System Leadership plays an important role in placing NZTA's strategic and national partnerships with Maori as a central part of the group's purpose.
Under the Land Transport Management Act 2003, NZTA has an obligation to provide opportunities for Maori to contribute to land transport decision-making processes and to foster the development of Maori capability.
The purpose of the Maori Crown Partnerships function is to lead the development of strategic Maori Crown Partnerships, embed NZTA's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ara Kotahi (our NZTA Maori strategy), and support positive outcomes for Maori in the land transport system.
The Pou Matua (National Manager), Maori Crown Partnerships is a key advisory and influencing role for NZTA / Waka Kotahi and central to how the organisation positions itself to strive for better outcomes for Maori and monitors the agency's progress towards this.
In addition, this role will be leading the development of strategic, national level Maori Crown Partnerships embedding the agency's commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ara Kotahi (NZTA's Maori strategy) and supporting positive outcomes for Maori in the land transport system.
The role will support the Te Tuapae – System Leadership Group leadership team to bring a te ao Maori view into their strategy, policy, planning, evidence, and insights work and facilitate, support and influence rangatira ki te rangatira engagement between iwi/Maori leaders and NZTA leadership.

Ko koe tenei | About you To be successful in this role, you will bring: Proven in-depth experience developing and implementing plans that allow for strategic partnerships with Maori and leveraging connections internally and externally to enable an organisation's leadership to engage with Iwi/Maori partners.
Experience in developing enduring commercial partnerships with Iwi/Maori business.
A high level of knowledge and experience of the aspirations and needs of Maori having built strong networks with a wide range of Maori and iwi representatives.
Experience taking a lead role in how the Crown engages in accordance with tikanga Maori.
A deep knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, its principles and how to apply it in both strategy and policy considering interests and early and appropriate engagement of iwi/Maori has been undertaken.
Deep knowledge of kaupapa Maori methodologies and frameworks and the ability to apply these across a wide range of disciplines.
Proven experience in leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of partners and stakeholders.
Proven expertise and experience with a deep understanding of the machinery of government and its processes.
The ability to demonstrate a collective leadership style, build highly capable teams and successfully support an organisation's culture.
Strong strategic, analytical, and critical thinking with the ability to enable Maori perspectives to be incorporated into strategy development outcomes.
Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
Qualifications: A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.
You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
