With a population of over 1.3 million, Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand. The region comprises the largest centre for Paediatrics, providing care to children from throughout New Zealand and also a small number of children from the neighbouring Pacific Islands.
Auckland has a broad-ranging socioeconomic landscape, and trainees are exposed to a wide variety of disease presentations and diverse cultures and ethnicities.
Specifically, we have available for the 2024 training year a Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Registrar position based at Starship Hospital. The Green Lane Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Service (PCCS) is a national service based at Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland. It is the sole provider of cardiology and cardiac surgical services for infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease for New Zealand and a number of Pacific Island nations.
Basic and Advanced Training Opportunities Available: During your first 2-3 years as a basic trainee working in the Auckland Region, you will be able to develop your skills while allocated to general paediatrics, paediatric emergency and NICU rotations, as well as some sub-specialty exposure (haematology/oncology, immunology/infectious diseases, cardiology, respiratory, neurology, renal, gastroenterology, endocrinology).
Advanced trainees working in the Auckland region are provided with the opportunity to work in Level 3 NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), Te Puaruruhau (Child Protection / Abuse), Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Child Emergency Department, Consult Liaison, and various medical subspecialties.
All of the jobs offered in our training hospitals can be accredited towards your basic and advanced training in Paediatrics with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP). Our training programme also provides trainees with the potential opportunity to work in Whangarei and/or Tauranga. These runs are ideal for completing rural training requirements in Advanced Training in General Paediatrics.
Eligibility and how to apply:
Preferred experience: 9-12 months in Paediatrics.Enrolment with the college FRACP programme (or equivalent).Eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (for local trainees this means you must have completed two full post-graduate years).Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora is committed to seeing Aucklanders from every community and background share in a healthier future.
