About the opportunity: We are seeking a Policy Planner to work in our Policy Planning Team here at Central Hawke's Bay District Council.
This is a replacement role and is a unique opportunity for an energetic, innovative person who is looking to grow professionally, to come join the CHB Whanau and support the Central Hawke's Bay District Council to THRIVE.
While our District Plan has recently been reviewed, you will work within our small but dedicated Planning team to keep the District Plan up to date, relevant to the community's aspirations and to ensure our resource management policies align with regional and national direction.
Your responsibilities will encompass giving high quality policy advice, conducting thorough analysis, and contributing to the formulation of policies within the realm of resource management and local government.
This will include keeping abreast of the Government's upcoming programme of resource management reform and contributing to/leading bylaw and regulatory policy reviews, alongside Council's subject matter experts.
We are looking for a Policy Planner who can hit the ground running to deliver on the community and Council's vision for the district.
It will include assisting in the development and implementation of changes to respond to growth and rolling reviews of the District Plan over the next 10 years and beyond.
No two days will be the same, this is an excellent opportunity to further your career and continue to learn as you go.
About you: This is an exciting role for planners or policy experts with some industry experience or for those maybe wanting to move from a consents planner role into a policy role.
We seek a planner who thrives in a growing and changing environment, enjoys problem solving and can work collaboratively across teams.
You will be a self-starter, inquisitive, with an interest in projects and a passion for policy and planning.
The role can be either full time or part time (minimum 30 hours per week).
You will need to share the Council's THRIVE values and its commitment to 'smarter thinking' so we can plan for tomorrow to futureproof Central Hawke's Bay.
You will work closely with colleagues in the District Plan Team as well as other teams within Council and a range of external stakeholders.
Specifically, you will have; · A degree in planning, resource management, the social sciences or a related field · At least 2 years' experience in policy planning and/or resource management, within a regional or territorial authority an advantage · Full membership of the NZ Planning Institute (desirable) · Familiarity with District Plan change processes · Sound knowledge of statutory requirements · Local Government experience · Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in managing stakeholders and consultants · Ability to undertake planning projects and issues independently · A clean full driver's licence.
