Policy Analyst and Senior Policy AnalystDepartment of Internal Affairs
Are you interested in shaping policies that make New Zealand a safer place and strengthen our democracy? We need two experienced policy analysts and a senior policy analyst to join the Policy Group at the Department of Internal Affairs.
We recruit generally to the Policy Group. Our work programme is dynamic and we need policy analysts willing to work across a range of issues.
We currently have significant projects in the following areas:
Community wellbeing - developing policies for a strong and vibrant community and voluntary sector, and to support the work of Fire and Emergency New Zealand.Gambling and racing - updating gambling legislation for today's digital world and ensuring it is futureproofed, online gambling, advertising and how we can effectively minimise harm across the gambling system.Regulatory efficiency and effectiveness - working across the Department to make changes to regulations and legislation that help our staff work more effectively and efficiently.As a Policy Analyst at the Department of Internal Affairs, you will work as part of a team to prepare evidence-based advice for ministers and senior leaders in the public service.
You will already have worked as a policy analyst in central or local government. As a Senior Policy Analyst, you will also need to have experience in working on changes to legislation or regulations.
You'll have experience leading, coaching, and supporting junior team members. You will have worked as a senior policy analyst or you will have equivalent experience.
You will need a relevant degree that demonstrates your critical thinking training, policy analysis experience or transferrable skills, and an excellent communication style.You will have an interest in legislative processes. You'll have a curious mindset that is motivated by solving problems and you're committed to continuous learning.Community and stakeholder engagement is a big part of what we do. You will need to be comfortable working with communities, industry, and international stakeholders.The Department is undergoing a Fiscal Sustainability Programme, including a proposed restructuring. Offers will be made after final decisions have been made on proposed changes.
