About the opportunity As an integral member of our team, you'll support the Planning & Policy Manager to ensure that bylaws and policies are in place to meet the needs of our community and align with Council objectives. Your focus will be on reviewing and developing processes for bylaws and statutory policies, providing policy advice and support to policy owners across Council and maintaining systems to manage, administer and report on Council's policies and bylaws. Key responsibilities include: Develop policy options for Council based on community needs and goals, conduct research and analysis on their potential impacts and advise on legislative changes and proposals. Support policy owners across the organisation by providing research, analysis, and project delivery assistance. Develop and review Council bylaws and policies, ensuring statutory compliance, engaging stakeholders, and supporting implementation. Deliver statutory consultation processes for policies and bylaws, including developing and delivering required documents, conducting community and stakeholder engagement, and administering feedback. About you We're seeking someone who is passionate about policy development, research, and analysis, with a sharp eye for detail, strong decision-making abilities, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to supporting community needs. In addition, you will have: A degree in policy or related field, or equivalent experience. Sound working knowledge of statutory process and of legislation influencing local government. A sound knowledge of the Local Government Act and the Resource Management Act. Experience working collaboratively with Maori communities and/or organisations alongside a solid understating of the Treaty of Waitangi and Tikanga Maori.
