Job Title : Policy Analyst, Forestry Sector Policy Role type : Permanent, full-time Location : Wellington City Salary band & range : $74,964 to $99,968 depending on skills and experience (Midpoint for this position is $87,466 per annum) Korero mo te Turanga - About the Role We are seeking a Policy Analyst to join the Forestry Sector Policy team which sits within the Primary Sector Policy directorate of Policy & Trade and is responsible for developing policy advice and maintaining legislation relating to the forestry sector.
The Primary Sector Policy directorate provides high-quality strategic policy advice and thought leadership to support our sectors to flourish.
As part of the Forestry Sector Policy team, you will work closely with Te Uru Rakau New Zealand Forest Service, the forestry sector, and industry organisations to ensure that MPI continues to grow and protect our primary sector resources and markets.
As part of this role, you will : Identify and report on trends and issues in the primary sector, by liaising with sector participants, government agencies, Maori interests, and other relevant stakeholders; Provide Ministers with clear, concise and relevant information on issues and options; Support Ministers with primary sector portfolios by drafting timely and relevant responses to Ministerial and/or Parliamentary questions and Official Information Act requests; Collaborate with peers in Policy & Trade and other Departments on cross-government policy development; Create and maintain effective internal and external relationships on the progress of specific issues.
Mou - About You You will ideally be currently working in a Policy Analyst role, with an interest in broadening your experience and knowledge of the primary sector.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, a solution-focused approach, and a proven ability to forge effective partnerships.
Sound understanding of, and experience operating in, Government processes; Previous experience in establishing and effectively maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders, as well as Maori interests and Government agencies; Good interpersonal and communications skills; Ability to think clearly and make decisions under pressure; Ability to plan and prioritise use of time, and manage workflows; Sound oral and written presentation ability; Computer literacy for basic programmes such as Word, Excel; A tertiary qualification or relevant experience in a similar position.
Mo to matou Ropu - About the Team Policy and Trade provides sector-level strategic thinking and evidence-based advice for effective government decision-making for systems related to agriculture, forestry, fisheries, biosecurity, food, animal welfare, and rural communities.
This is a Wellington based role reporting to the Manager Forestry Sector Policy, and working alongside a mix of Policy Analysts including Principal and Senior Policy Analysts.
The team has a collaborative working style so that everyone feels supported in contributing to their collective goals.
The team also works closely with the wider Policy & Trade branch, Te Uru Rakau New Zealand Forest Service, government agencies, and industry so there is ample opportunity to build meaningful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
