About the team and the roleAs a Policy Advisor at DOC, you'll have the opportunity to advance your career whilst working on a range of issues at the heart of New Zealand's conservation efforts.
Whether you are contributing to a legislative process from inception or drafting a briefing on one of our Ministers' priorities across the conservation or hunting and fishing portfolios, you'll gain great exposure and some awesome career development.
There will be lots of stakeholder engagement as you'll be working closely with others across DOC and key Agencies such as MFE, MPI, and MBIE.
Our policy teams are very social; we love a coffee and quiz, and of course, we're really driven to improve conservation outcomes!
Skills and experienceStrong critical thinking capability, demonstrated by experience in the analysis of issues and the provision of advice.Excellent written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to write succinctly and in plain English.Strong planning and organizing skills, demonstrated by experience working at pace and pivoting when required.Experience and confidence in collaborating and building stakeholder relationships.Good experience operating within Machinery of Government.If you have some experience of the legislative process, that's a definite bonus!What's in it for you?The Department of Conservation / Te Papa Atawhai places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.

We provide the strategic direction and thought leadership for DOC and for the conservation system. The Directorate ensures DOC has the right frameworks and settings in place to deliver on our outcomes for conservation, to meet Government priorities, and to be an honorable Treaty partner.
