Salary: $125,497.84 Annually

The Role
The Mountain View Police Department is seeking compassionate, committed individuals to join our team as Police Officer Trainees. We emphasize Community Policing, fostering connections within our diverse community, and proactively solving community issues. As a trainee, you'll complete a POST-approved Police Academy before beginning your field training program. Upon successful completion, trainees will be reclassified as sworn Police Officers.

Responsibilities: Respond to requests for police service. Provide public assistance and education. Detect and address community concerns. Use de-escalation techniques for mediation and problem-solving. Build and maintain respectful and trust-based relationships within the community. Conduct interviews, prepare reports, process offenders, and testify in court. Core Values: Exceptional Service: Providing responsive, fair, and competent services. Qualifications: 40 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college (must be completed by the application date). Valid California driver's license. Vision and hearing standards consistent with POST requirements. Minimum age of 21. Passing scores on the National Testing Network (NTN) FrontLine Law Enforcement Test: Reading: 70% or higher Writing: 70% or higher Video: 65% or higher Candidates must register and take the NTN test before the application deadline. Scores must be received by Human Resources no later than 5:00 PM PST on the closing date. The test is a 2-hour timed assessment measuring reading, writing, and judgment skills. Bonus Opportunity:
New hires are eligible for a $5,000 bonus, paid in two installments: $2,500 in the first paycheck and $2,500 upon successful completion of the probationary period.

Additional Information: Candidates must pass a medical exam, psychological screening, and an extensive background check conducted under POST guidelines. This includes a polygraph and DOJ/FBI fingerprint check. A conviction will not necessarily disqualify a candidate, but failure to disclose any conviction may result in disqualification.
